&lt;p&gt;I&#039;ve stumbled across an earlier article of &lt;a href=&quot;http://ajaxian.com/archives/an-interview-with-280-north-on-objective-j-and-cappuccino&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;Ajaxian&lt;/a&gt; which interviews the makers and reveils some more details how they accomplished the drawing - apparently by using canvas and a lot of browser-specific magic (transparent pngs for FF2 which does not support alpha color blending) - great stuff.&lt;/p&gt;
